Aadhaar Mandatory for PDS Beneficiaries – Enroll before 30 June 2017

The Government of India has made Aadhaar mandatory for availing subsidised foodgrains from the ration shops. The beneficiaries have to get Aadhaar card by 2017 June 30. The Government, in its notification did not said that the foodgrains will not be sold to anyone not having Aadhaar after June 30.

Under the National Food Security Law (NFSA), which has been launched across the country in November last year, the government provides 5 kg of foodgrains per person every month at Rs. 1-3 / kg to over 80 crore people.

Individual beneficiaries with ration cards under NFSA have to furnish Aadhaar number or should undergo Aadhaar authentication. Notification of the Government is applicable to all new beneficiaries. This will be implemented in all States and UTs except Assam, Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir.

Beneficiaries who do not have Aadhaar number or are not yet enrolled for Aadhaar should submit application for Aadhaar enrolment by June 30, 2017. They may visit any Aadhaar enrolment centre to get enrolled for Aadhaar.
