Farmers Suicides in Telangana Continues

The suicides of farmers in Telangana is continuing and likely to continue if the inactivity of the government is any indication. The number of farmers resorting to suicides is increasing day after day.

The absence of Telangana chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has paralysed the policy and decision making mechanism and the authorities are largely inactive in taking preventive steps to stop the farmers suicides.

The suicide of a farmer near Secretariat two days back has triggered the issue to go into government circles. But the reaction of Chief Minister office rejecting the policy inaction as the reason for farmers suicides would help little to stop the growing self sacrifices.

The government has to take immediate steps to ensure compensation for the crop loses due to dry weather and shortage rainfall. Action has to be taken on the private money lenders if they apply pressure on the ailing farmers.
