Medaram Sammakka Sarakka Jatara in February 2012

Sammakka Sarakka Jatara or Medaram Jatara will be conducted during February 2012. Sammakka Saralamma Jatara is a faous tribal festival celebrated in the Medaram Village in Warangal district of the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. It is estimated that the Medaram Jatara is the biggest attractor of the people in the country after Kumbha Mela. Medaram is located in the parts of Dandakaranya, in a remote place in the Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary. The Jatara is likely to start from 8th February 2012.

Sammakka Sarakka Jatara will be held for three days in a row and only once in two years. It is estimated that about six million people will attend the Jatara. Medaram is located in about 90 km distance from Warangal town. Devotees offer Bangaram (jaggery) of a quantity equal to their weight to the goddesses. The APSRTC will run hundreds of buses to Medaram from all major of Andhra Pradesh for the convenience of devotees. Thousands of tribals from almost all parts of the country will attend the Jatara.

Tribals and common people from Warangal, Khammam, Adilabab and other districts of Telangana consist major part and people from states like Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra will also attend in thousands to participate in the Jatara (festival).
