Number Plates in Hyderabad and Telangana to Change from AP to TS – 2015

Department of Transport of the Government of Telangana has once again raised the issue of changing number plates of Cars, Bikes, and other motor vehicles in the new state of Telangana to suit the new codes for the state and districts. The Government is likely to issue a GO soon with the guidelines for change of number plates.

It is observed that changing the AP to TS and District Code Numbers will be mandatory as per the new guidelines. The last four digits of the number need not be changes. The government is likely to give four months time to the vehicle owners to change the number plates.

For example, if the vehicle number is AP 09 CV 9918, the number has to be changes to TS + new district code + CV 9918. The last two English letters also will be same but the TS and district code must be changed.

Following are new district codes: Adilabad – 01, Karimnagar – 02, Warangal – 03, Khammam – 04, Nalgonda – 05, Mahaboobnagar – 06, Rangareddy – 07, 08, Hyderabad – 09, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, Medak – 15, Nizamabad – 16.

It is estimated that about 72 lakhs motor vehicles including cars, two wheelers, goods transport vehicles etc need to change their numbers. The vehicle owners need to get a new RC (Registration Certificate) with the changed number. The Government is yet to take a decision as the changes will be done free of cost or with charges.
