Profile of Chennur Constituency – Nalala Odelu

Nallala Odelu is from Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Party and representing Chennur Assembly Constituency as an MLA. There are 10 Assembly constituencies in Adilabad district. The Chennur Constituency is located in Adilibad district. Nallala Odelu won 2010 bye elections to Chennur constituency with a huge majority of more than 44000 votes. He defeated significant leaders of the Congress and TDP in that elections. The Congress party fielded G. Vinod, son of senior Congress leader and CWC member G.Vinod in that elections. Boda Janardhan of TDP lost his deposit in that bye election.

Let us see the statistics of the 2010 bye elections. Total votes are 1,49,252. Out of these 1,12,200 (75.2 percent) were polled and the TRS candidate Nallala Odelu got (67,887 – 60.5 percent) votes. G. Vinod of the Congress got 23,603 votes and Boda Janardhan of TDP polled 6,683 votes. If we look at the 2009 Assembly elections, Nallala Odelu of TRS won that election as well but with a thin majority of about 12000 votes. G. Vinod of the Congress polled 33463 votes in that general elections.

Other candidates he defeated in 2009 elections are A Srinivas from PRP, A Posham from BJP and M Saroja of Loksatta. About 74.8 percent votes were polled in that election. Odelu is the favorite candidate of TRS for the coming Assembly elections in 2014. Chennur is a reserved constituency and known as stronghold of the Congress Party. The senior Congress leader Venkata Swamy and his family have some following and influence in the constituency.
