Profile of Daggubati Purandeswari – Congress MP

Daggubati Purandeswari is a Congress woman politician from Andhra Pradesh. She is the daughter of former chief minister of AP and founder of Telugu Desam Party, late N.T. Ramarao. She is presently serving as Minister of state for Human Resource Development. This is her second term as a central minister in the cabinet of Dr.Manmohan Singh. She held the same portfolio during 2004 – 2009. Following is the bio-data cum profile of Daggubati Purandeswari. Purandeswari was elected to Lok Sabha in 2009 general elections from Visakhapatnam Constituency. Earlier to this, she was elected from Bapatla Parliamentary Constituency in 2004 elections. She was shifted from Bapatla to Visakhapatnam constituency as Bapatla was allocated to SC category in 2009 elections.

Purandeswari’s parents are N.T. Rama Rao and N. Basava Rama Tarkam. She was born on 22-04-1959 at Chennai (Tamilnadu). She was married to Daggubati Venkateswara Rao on 09th May 1979 and they have a daughter and a son. Venkateswara Rao also served as a Minister in NTR cabinet and occupied top positions in TDP during NTR’s period. Presently he is serving as an MLA of Parchur Assembly Constituency of Prakasam district.

Purandeswari studied B.A. (Literature) and Graduated in Gemology and educated at South Indian Educational Trust and Women College (Chennai) and Gemological Institute of India. Her permanent address is at House No. 65, Road No. 13, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad – 500034. Apart from serving as central minister, she is also a member of Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice. There has been some in-fight over Visakhapatnam Constituency in recent times. Rajya Sabha MP of the Congress Party, T Subbirami Reddy is claiming for Visakhapatnam seat in 2014 elections.
