Profile of G Venkata Swamy of Peddapalli

G. Venkatswamy is a senior most Congress leader from Andhra Pradesh. He is a member of the CWC (Congress Working Committee), which is the highest decision making body of the Congress Party. He served in various top positions of the party and also occupied several public offices. He served as an MP from Peddapalli Lok Sabha Constituency for a long time. His son, G. Vivek is representing this constituency from 2009. His another son, G. Vinod is also in the politics and served as Minister in the Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh. Parents of Venkataswamy are Mallaiah and Pentamma. He born on 05-10-1929 at Hyderabad. He was married to Kalavati on 01 November 1944 and they have two sons and three daughters. Venkataswamy is a matriculate. His permanent address is at 3-6- 22-23, Sarvasukhi Colony, West Marredpally, Secunderabad- 500003. Venkataswamy served as a cabinet minister in AP during 1978-82 and also won as an MLA during 1957-62 amd 1978-84. He was a president of INTUC during 1961-64.

Venkataswamy was first elected to 4th Lok Sabha during 1967 and re-elected to 15th Lok Sabha in 1971. He served as Union Deputy Minister for Civil Supply and Rehabilitation during February 1973 – November 1977. After electing to Lok Sabha again in 1977, he was appointed as a cabinet Minister for Labour and Civil Supply. He went on winning Peddapalli Lok Sabha seat in 1989, 1991, 1996 and 2004. Venkataswamy also served as Minister for Rural Development, Textiles, Labour and also as a President ot AICC (Sc and ST). He almost quit the active politics and handed over the reigns to his sons.
