Profile of Pranab Mukherjee of the Congress Party

Pranab Mukherjee is the front runner for the post of President of India for which elections are scheduled to held on 19th July 2012. The ruling UPA is most likely to name his candidature for the highest post. Pranab Da is a senior most politician in Indian politics. He is known as a trouble shooter for UPA Government. He occupied several important positions in the Government and the Congress party. Following is the profile cum biodata of Pranab Mukherjee.

Pranab Mukherjee was elected to Lok Sabha from Jangipur Parliamentary Constituency in West Bengal. His parents are Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee and Smt. Rajlakshmi Mukherjee. He was born on 11th December 1935 at Mirati Village, Birbhum district, West Bengal. He was married to Suvra Mukherjee on 13th July 1957 and they have two sons and a daughter.

Pranab’s permanent address is at Flat No. 2-A, First Floor, 60/2/7, Kavi Bharti Sarani, Lake Road, Kolkata – 700 029 West Bengal. He studied M.A. Political Science, M.A. History, LL.B, D.Litt (Honoris Causa) and educated at Vidyasagar College, Suri, Calutta University, West Bengal. He is a teacher, journalist, writer, political and social worker.

Pranab Mukherjee was first elected to Rajya Sabha in 1969 and became Minister of Industrial Development in the Union Cabinet in 1974. He served in the Ministries of Shipping and Transport, Finance, Revenue and Banking, Commerce and Steel and Mines, External Affairs, Defence and Finance. He was elected to Rajya Sabha for 5 terms and 2 terms for Lok Sabha. He is the most crucial leader in the Congress Party and member of CWC and AICC, the highest decision making bodies in the Congress Party.
