Profile of Raghuram Rajan – Chief Economic Advisor

Raghuram Rajan is a noted economist and also has been appointed as Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India. He studied at IIM Ahmedabad, IIT Delhi and MIT (USA). He served in various honourable positions including president of the American Finance Association, committee on financial reforms and honorary economic adviser to Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. Raghuram Rajan was born on 3rd February 1963 at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Presently he is serving at University of Chicago and teaching Financial economics. He studied his Engineering 9B.Tech) from IIT Delhi, PGDM from IIM Ahmedabad and later did his Ph.D. From MIT.

He received prestigious awards such as Fischer Black Prize in 2003 and Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award in 2012. His publications include ‘Saving Capitalism from the Capitalists and Fault Lines ; How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy.

Raghuram Rajan also served as Chief Economic Advisor in the IMF and presently appointed as Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) in the Ministry of Finance. He will be playing crucial role in framing the coming Budgets for 2013-14 and 2014-15 along with Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram.
