Profile of Vizianagaram Constituency and Ashok Gajapathi Raju

Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju is representing Vizianagaram Assembly constituency. Ashok Gajapathi Raju is a senior leader of th Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the district. He was elected seven times as an MLA. He served as Minister for Finance and Revenue in the cabinets of late N.T. Rama Rao and N. Chandrababu Naidu. He lost the assembly election in 2004 and reelected in 2009 Assemble elections from Vizianagaram Constituency. RP Bhanz Dev is another senior leader of TDP from Vizianagaram district. Ashok Gajapathi Raju’s father’s name is late P.V.G. Raju. They belongs to the Gajapati empire of Orissa. His permanent address is 1-8-1, Bungalow, Cantonment, Vizianagaram. Vizianagaram Assembly Constituency comes under Vizianagaram Lok Sabha segment which is represented by Dr. Botcha Jhansi Lakshmi.

Ashok Gajapathi Raju won from the constituency for the first time in 1978. After that, he consecutively won from Vizianagaram constituency in 1983, 1985, 1989, 1994 and 1999 Assembly elections. He lost to Kolagatla Veera Bhadra Swamy in 2004 elections. Veera Bhadra Swamy was elected as an independent and later joined in the Congress party. Ashok Gajapathi Raju regained the seat in 2009 elections and certainly contest from the same in 2014 elections.
