Here comes another simple and smart way for Aadhaar Enrollment in Andhra Pradesh. The UIDAI authorities have decided to commence Aadhaar enrollments from post offices in the state for the speedy implementation of the project. About 317 post offices across the State of Andhra Pradesh were identified for the purpose. The general public can visit their nearest post office and enroll themselves along with required documents and certificates for the Unique Identification (UID) or Aadhaar cards. The Aadhaar Enrollment Centre at General Post-Office (GPO), Hyderabad was inaugurated recently and the Department of Posts officials are contemplating that another 16 post offices will be added in Hyderabad to enroll the people for Aadhaar cards. Apart from Post Offices, people can also apply online for Aadhaar Cards.
As part of the first phase eight enrollment centers in post-offices at 8 locations will be started in a week. The locations are Sanathnagar, Begumpet, Pattargatti, Uppal, Himmatnagar and Jamai-Osmania. The officials of the Department of Post disclosed that there is only one Aadhaar Enrollment counter at GPO and will open more counters in future.
Andhra Pradesh recorded the highest number in terms of number of persons enrolled for Aadhaar cards. About 2.5 crore persons from AP have enrolled till the date and this is the largest number in the country. AP has started the Aadhaar enrollments in the districts in two phases. AP is followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka. The UIDAI authorities are aimed at completing the Aadhaar project in AP by 31st March 2012. But there is a huge problem with the dispatch of Aadhaar Cards. Only 31 lakh Aadhaar cards have been dispatched in AP out of of which 13 lakh cards belong to Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts only. Those enrolled for Aadhaar Cards are waiting for months to receive the Cards at their addresses thanks to the indifference of Postal Department towards dispatch of the UID Cards.
