The Aadhaar Registration process has been started in Assam and Mizoram during July 2010. But the progress of Aadhaar Registration seems very bleak in both the North Eastern States of Assam and Mizoram. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has signed MoUs (Memorandom of Understandings) with Assam and Mizoram as part of its prestigious Aadhaar project. People of Assam and Mizoram can use this facility as the Aadhaar Cards are going to be linked with implementation of various welfare schemes.
Both the State Governments in Assam and Mizoram have set up enrollment camps in various places for the registration. It is simple enrollment process in which all the family members have to attend at their near by enrollment camp with all the required documents. The documents primarily include ration card / photo id proof and address proof. Children aged below 5 years also can enroll for UIDAI card. They need not give IRIS and thumb impressions at the time of submission of family details and the same will be taken after the child completes five year. The UIDAI Aadhaar number will remain same for them.
Till the month of April 2011, only a few hundreds of enrollments were finished in Assam and Mizoram. Other North Eastern States such as Manipur, Tripura and Sikkim are a bit ahead of Assam and Mizoram in enrolling the people for Aadhaar Cards. Some states are facilitating people to apply online as well for Aadhaar Cards as it will speed up the process. You can also check the status of your Aadhaar Cards after the process of enrollment is finished. You need to submit details of enrollment date, registration number and time to get the status of your enrollment. Several state governments are linking Aadhaar Cards for the transparent implementation of PDS, Pension schemes, LPG Connections and other welfare programmes.
