Jharkhand is on the top of the charts of UID Aadhaar Enrollments in the country. This was disclosed by none other than UIDAI chairman, Nandan Nilekani while reviewing the progress of Aadhaar enrollments in the state recently. Nilekani praised the administration of Jharkhand Govt. for showing interest in Aadhaar enrollment and quoted that the state is far ahead of its neighbors West Bengal and Bihar. The UIDAI Aadhaar work is moving on snail pace in these two states.
Jharkhand has the Eastern region headquarters at Ranchi for the implementation of Aadhaar project. The official sources in Jharkhand confirmed that so far around 20 lakh people of Jharkhand had been enrolled for Aadhaar UID cards. Among these, about 6.5 lakh people have already received their Aadhaar numbers. Those who have already registered or enrolled and waiting for the number can check the status of their enrollment online through official website of Aadhaar Project. It is also informed that the Aadhaar enrollment in the urban areas is likely to be completed by March 2012. The regional office at Ranchi is monitoring the Aadhaar progress in all three states.
Nilekani announced that the UIDAI (Aadhaar Enrollment) progress in Jharkhand was satisfactory and that every individual in the state would receive his or her Aadhar number by the end of March 2013. Everyday 200-300 people are turning up at Aadhaar Camps for registration of family details. People have to submit relevant copies of ID and Residence certificates at the time of registration. The state government is contemplating to issue Aadhaar numbers to over 10 lakh new persons in the coming three to four months. Jharkhand Government is likely to link Aadhaar cards for the implementation of MGNREGS, old age pension scheme, scholarships and public distribution system etc.
If we look at the statistics available on Aadhaar Cadrs at national level, it is estimated that about 90 lakh people have already been issued Aadhaar numbers across the country. Another 2 crore people have been enrolled and the allocation of UID number for them is under process. The UIDAI authorities are aiming to issue 60 crore Aadhaar numbers by 2014 across the country. In order to achieve this target, the Aadhaar authorities aim to enroll 10 lakh people across the country in a day from the coming October. Lets hope the target will be achieved with out causing much trouble for the people!
