The Governemnt of Andhra Pradesh has decided to issued Smart Cards / Aadhaar Cards in 7 districts as declared in the Budget 2011-12. The Aadhaar Cards are likely to be used to prevent misuse of ration card and will be converted into a multi purpose card. The Govt. of Andhra Pradesh is planning to finish the issue of Aadhaar Cards by the end of the year 2011. The districts that are going to cover in the first phase are East Godavari, Anantapur, Chittoor, Srikakulam, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad and Adilabad. The process has already been started in Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts and may be initiated in other districts as well. The Civil Supplies Minister D. Sridhar Babu disclosed these details in AP Assembly. He said that government is contemplating to issue Aadhar number-based Smart Cards to all the BPL families in the state. These cards will be used to avail rations through fair price shops along with many other purposes. The government is aimed at using biometrics system to stop misuse of the cards to avail ration.
The project is being implemented on a pilot basis in the above mentioned districts and will be expanded to other districts incrementally. The Smart Card will also be used for availing benefits such as Aarogyasri and tuition fee reimbursement. You can apply for Aadhaar Card through online or offline methods. You can download the forms in Telugu / English languages and submit to concerned authorities with all the required certificates and details. You may be intimated to attend for taking bio-metrics / iris on a specified date through newspapers.
