Aadhaar is slowly becoming the most important proof to avail many services at the state and central level. The Central Government is proposed to link Aadhaar with driving licence. It is not mandatory as of now. But it may become a rule once the proposed law is passed in parliament.
All the Road and Transport authorities will be directed by the Central Government to provide easy methods to link aadhaar with driving license. All the vehicle owners / drivers have to execute this rule to avoid fine / penalty.
Following is the step by step procedure to link Aadhaar with Driving Licence:
1) Log on to the website of your state / UT road transport department
2) There will be an option to move on to link aadhaar like – Link Aadhaar
3) Choose – Driving License – from the shown menu
4) Enter yout driving licence number.
5) After checking driving license details, enter your 12 digit aadhaar number.
6) You may get a OTP to check the credentials of Aadhaar.
7) Now click on – Submit – to complete Aadhaar – driving licence linking process.
8) You may also get a confirmation message.
The Aadhaar and Driving licence linking is aimed at wiping out duplicate or more than one licence for a single person. A single driving licence is valid across the country, hence no need of many licences.
The public is likely to face trouble as the names on driving licence and aadhaar may vary at the time of online linking. Many people use short names while getting driving licence. This will create another unnecessary headache for the common people to run after offices for corrections on driving licence / aadhaar.
