The Anantapur Urban constituency is going for by election in June 2012. The three main political parties have fielded strong candidates and keep hopes alive on their winning strategies. The incumbent MLA Gurunatha Reddy, who disqualified from the post on the grounds of anti party activities is contesting from YSR Congress Party. He won from the segment in 2009 elections.
The TDP has fielded Mahalakshmi Srinivas as its candidate. It is reported that Balakrishna has recommended the candidature of Srinivas. Bala Krishna may tour the constituency extensively in the coming days. TDP in general also has good base in Anantapur district.
The Congress has moved strategically by fielding Mursheeda Begum, a minority and woman candidate to get the votes of women and minorities. We have to wait and watch to know how far Congress Party can contain the impact of YSR Congress and strength of TDP.
