The e-passport system is also effective in curbing the menace of fake passports. An e-Passport will contain an electronic chip which holed the same information that is printed on the passport’s data page.
The India Security Press (ISP) at Nasik will manufacture the e-passports. The procedures related to tenders and procurement are under progress and the e-passport system may soon come into force. The application process and documents to be uploaded will be notified by the Ministry of Home Affairs and will be displayed on the passport India website.
The e-passport is also called as biometric passport and electronic passport. Biometrics used for e-passport system are facial recognition, fingerprint recognition, and iris recognition.
