Nearly three weeks after the dramatic airport detention that made headlines across Telugu media, the “Nandu’s World” visa scam case is still very much alive — and, if anything, the investigation appears to be dragging rather than concluding.
How it started. YouTube star A Rama Nandana, known for her family-lifestyle channel with over 2.8 million subscribers, was intercepted at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on September 7 after Andhra Pradesh police issued a lookout circular against her. She and her husband, Jagarlamudi Madhukar, along with his father Mohan Rao, stand accused of collecting large sums from job seekers by promising UK visas, sponsorships, and employment through their consultancy — money that, in at least one documented case, brought no visa, no job, and only a fraction refunded.
Where things stand now. Nandana was handed over to Ibrahimpatnam police and questioned, but reportedly gave “no vital clues,” maintaining that her husband — accused number one in the case — handled the visa-related dealings, not her. She was asked to return for further questioning around September 16. Her husband Madhukar, meanwhile, has yet to appear before investigators, with Nandana telling police he would come in only after she herself returns to London.
No resolution for victims. Far from being wrapped up, the scene at the police station reportedly turned emotional, with multiple alleged victims showing up demanding their money back — some claiming they’d sold farmland to invest in the promised UK opportunities. Multiple cases are said to be registered across different jurisdictions, suggesting the scale of the alleged fraud is still being pieced together.
Her side of the story. Nandana has publicly denied wrongdoing, calling the allegations a smear campaign stemming from personal disputes, and has gone quiet on her social channels since.
Bottom line: Between an absconding co-accused, an ongoing multi-city investigation, and unresolved victim claims, this one is nowhere near “over” — it’s arguably just getting started.
