Mekapati Chandra Sekhar Reddy is representing Udayagiri Assembly Constituency (124) in Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh. He is brother of senior politician and industrialist Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy. Known as Mekapati brothers, they are highly influential and strong political group in the district. The Mekapati brothers have been known as loyal to late YS Rajasekhar Reddy and continuing the same to his son YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. They have openly defied the Congress high command and participated in Jagan’s ‘Odarpu Yatra’ in Nellore district. Mekapati Chandra Sekhar Reddy has been elected twice from Udayagiri constituency during 2004 and 2009 Assembly elections.
Udayagiri Constituency earlier represented by his brother and present Nellore MP, Mekapati Rajamohan Redy. BJP’s top leader from the district, Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu also represented Udayagiri constituency in 1978 and 1983 elections. He won on the banner of Janata Party in 1978 elections and on the ticket of BJP in 1983 elections. Mekapati Chandra Sekhar Reddy was defeated by Kambham Vijaya Rami Reddy of TDP in 1999 elections and has been on the winning track since 2004. It is almost certain that Mekapati brothers will be leaving the Congress party and likely to contest on behalf of Jagan’s party in the coming 2014 elections.
