Dr. Sake Sailaja Nath has been a politician with fortune in Andhra Pradesh politics. Everybody was surprised when he was included in the recent cabinet formation of N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. He was honored with an important portfolio of Primary Education and SSA. The only apparent reason behind these developmets would be to keep him away from Y.S. Jagan’s influence. That was also a tactical move from the Congress bigwigs to counter Jagan’s destabilising efforts in Anantapur District’s Congress. Most senior MLAs from the district, J.C. Diwakar Reddy and Katasani Rambhupal Reddy have been sidelined in allocating cabinet berths. This might take its toll on the District Congress Party in the near future as Katasani Rambhupal Reddy has already joined in dissidence and has been in touch with Jagan’s group.
Sailajanath was elected to the Assembly from Singanamala Constituency (SC), Anantapur District for the first time in 2004. He served as Chief Whip of the Congress party. He won from the same constituency in 2009 as well. Sailajanath was a strong follower of Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and also a staunch supporter of United Andhra Pradesh. Following is his brief profile:
