Profile of Sabitha Indra Reddy- Maheswaram

Smt. Patlolla Sabitha Indra Reddy is representing from Maheshwaram Assembly Constituency of Ranga Reddy district in Andhra Pradesh. She was elected from Chevella Assembly Constituency twice beofre it was allocated to SC category after delimitaion of the constituencies in 2009. Sabitha Indra Reddy is wife of late P. Indra Reddy, who was a strong leader in the district and also served as Home Minister in Telugu Desam Government of N.T. Rama Rao during 1994-95. Indra Reddy was died in a tragic road accident in 2000 and Sabitha Indra Reddy was first elected to the AP Assembly in the bye elections held in 2000.

Sabitha Indra Reddy joined in the Congress Party and elected again from Chevella Constituency in 2004. She was popularly known as Chevella Chellemma and YS Rajasekhar Reddy considered her a lucky hand for him and used to initiate any programme from Chevella. Sabitha was served as Minister for Information Technology, Mines and Infrastructure in YSR’s cabinet. She was made Home Minister by Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy after 2009 elections and has been continued in the same portfolio in Rosaiah and N. Kiran Kumar Reedy’s cabinets. She also has the distinction of serving as First Woman Home Minister in the state of Andhra Pradesh and India.

Sabitha Indra Reddy has strong hold on the Congress Party in Ranga Reddy district. Kichannagari Lakshma Reddy (KLR) of Medchal Constituency has been major rival to her in the district. He has threatedned to resign from the party due to differences with Sabitha Indra Reddy. Sabitha Reddy is a staunch follower of YSR Reddy and has been continuing her loyalty to the Congress Party. She has been silent on Y.S. Jagan’s political fortunes but Sabitha’s son, Karthik Reddy is believed to have close relations with Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
