Putta Mahesh Kumar Yadav – Eluru MP Profile and Moinabad Drugs Case Full Details

Who is Putta Mahesh Kumar Yadav?

Putta Mahesh Kumar Yadav is the sitting Member of Parliament from Eluru constituency in Andhra Pradesh, elected on a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ticket. He is the son of Putta Sudhakar Yadav, the TDP MLA from Mydukur and former Chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). He belongs to a politically influential family considered close to TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. He had earlier promised during his election campaign to make the Eluru Parliament constituency drug-free, which made his involvement in the drugs case all the more politically sensitive.

What is the Moinabad Farmhouse Drugs Case?

A late-night raid at a farmhouse near Moinabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad on 14 March 2026 resulted in the arrest of 11 individuals, including a sitting MP and a former MLA, both of whom tested positive for narcotics. Telangana police discovered cocaine and a firearm during the operation. The farmhouse belongs to former BRS MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy. According to the FIR, police received credible information around 8 PM that a group of people had gathered at the farmhouse and were consuming liquor and narcotic substances at a private party.

How Was the Raid Conducted?
After receiving the tip-off, police entered the information in station records and informed senior officers. After obtaining search authorisation from the ACP of Chevella division, a combined team consisting of local police, the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau EAGLE team, the Special Operations Team, and the Clues team conducted the raid on the farmhouse.

What Was Seized?
Officers recovered 0.26 grams of cocaine, a .32 calibre revolver, and large quantities of premium liquor including beer, whisky, and vodka of various brands from the farmhouse premises.

Who Tested Positive?
Drug tests were conducted on all 11 individuals who attended the party. Six of them tested positive for narcotics including former BRS MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy and TDP MP Putta Mahesh Kumar Yadav. Rohith Reddy has been named as Accused No. 2 (A2) and Putta Mahesh Kumar has been listed as Accused No. 7 (A7) in the FIR registered at Moinabad Police Station in Rangareddy district.

How Did the Drug Test Work?
The first test conducted on the night of 14 March showed a negative result for MP Putta Mahesh. However, as per standard procedure, blood samples were sent for confirmatory lab testing. The confirmatory test returned a positive result for narcotics, confirming his consumption of drugs.

Who Brought the Drugs?
During investigation, police identified a man named Kaushik Ravi as the person who allegedly brought the drugs from Shimla. He was taken into custody and interrogated. Police also probed whether similar parties involving drug consumption were organised at the same farmhouse on earlier occasions.

Charges Filed Against the Accused
Police registered a case under sections of the NDPS Act related to possession and consumption of narcotic substances, along with provisions of the Arms Act and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to obstruction of public servants and endangering lives.

Bail Granted to MP
MP Putta Mahesh Yadav was granted station bail citing the ongoing Parliament session. He was quietly moved out through a back route to avoid the media gathered outside the police station.

TDP’s Response – Notice Issued to MP
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu directed the MP to stay away from party activities immediately after the test results became public. Naidu instructed state TDP president Palla Srinivas Rao to issue a notice to the MP seeking a written explanation within five days and to submit a report on the incident. Party sources indicated that the leadership was deeply unhappy and was considering suspension after the internal report is submitted.

Political Reactions
YSRCP leaders said it was deeply shameful that an MP who had publicly promised to make his constituency drug-free was allegedly caught at a drugs party. They demanded his immediate resignation and a public apology to the voters of Eluru. YSRCP termed TDP as the Telugu Drugs Party and alleged that liquor and drugs are freely available across Andhra Pradesh under the current government. They further alleged hypocrisy in the government’s Say No to Drugs Bro campaign.

BRS leaders called for a thorough investigation but cautioned against attempts to give the issue a political colour.
Significance of the Farmhouse
The Moinabad farmhouse gained additional attention because the same property had featured in Telangana’s high-profile MLA poaching controversy in 2022, when BRS leaders alleged attempts to lure their legislators to switch parties.

SP’s Warning
Rangareddy SP Giridhar issued a strong statement saying strict action would be taken against anyone found consuming drugs regardless of their status, stating clearly that whether it is an MP or an MLA, no one would be spared if found using narcotic substances.

This case has triggered a major political storm in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, raising serious questions about the conduct of elected representatives and the credibility of leaders who publicly campaign against drugs while allegedly consuming them in private.
