Real estate business in the prime areas adjoining financial district near Gachibowli – Hyderabad is on the edge as hearing on GO 111 at NGT (National Green Tribunal) is under progress. Real estate business has flourished in areas like Tellapur, Kokapet, Mokila, Kondakal, Shankarpalli areas due to non-availability of land for multi storeyed residential and commercial use thanks to GO 111.
KCR promise to lift GO 111:
In his recent election campaign KCR has promised to lift GO 111 if voted to power again. He asked the farmers in all the effected villages not to sell their land at through away prices as the land prices will boost up once GO is lifted. GO 111 prohibits constructions morethan 80 villages in order to protect Manjeera river bed which provides water to Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar lakes to meet drinking water needs of several parts of Hyderabad.
High Power Committee to Decide:
Government of Telangana has constituted a high power committee to study the impact on environment and drinking water availability if the GO is lifted by the authorities. The TS Government is in favour of exempting some villages from the GO if complete withdraw of the GO is not possible. NGT is also saying that it is the call of the Government to take a decision on the GO.
Environment Concerns:
The Environment and Human Rights groups are fighting in NGT for the continuation of GO 111 citing environmental protection in and around the city. NGT has asked the Government to fix a time frame for High power committee to complete its recommendations and take a decision on the GO by Government. NGT has leaved the matter to the Government but hoped that nprotection would be the concern of the state while taking a decision.
