The Government of Haryana has launched Aadhaar Unique Identification (UID) Enrollment project during the last week of May 2011. The Aadhaar Project in the state was launched by its chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The state is proposed to issue Unique Identification Number (UID) and Smart Cards for the smooth and effective implementation of various Government schemes. In the first phase of Aadhaar project, enrollments will be done in four Blocks of Ambala, Gharaunda, Sonipat and Sirsa as a Pilot Project. People have to give their biometrics and Iris impressions apart from submitting relevant copies of documents such as residence and ID proofs.
The Govt. of Haryana has decided to issue Aadhaar Smart cards for about 54 lakh families of the state. The Smart Cards will be issued to the people as per their category and the Government is contemplating to cover the entire state in next two years. In the Phase I of the Aadhaar project, about 1.60 lakh families and 7.64 lakh persons would be covered in the four blocks mentioned above. The Aadhaar Smart Card Project will be extended to other blocks / districts such as Panchkula, Rohtak, Mewat, Bhiwani, Mahendragarh, Faridabad, Panipat, Gurgaon, Kurukshetra, Fatehabad, Jind, Hissar, Kaithal, Jhajjar, Karnal, Rewari, Palwal and Yamuna Nagar in later phases.
All residents of the four blocks including children above five years of age can enroll themselves in the nearest camps for the smart cards. The Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Govt. of Haryana will implement Aadhaar enrollment process of the Smart Card Project for the Public Distribution System. People will also get a new ration card along with Aadhaar UID number. The state government will replace the existing paper based ration cards with Aadhaar Smart Cards. The Directorate of Food and Civil Supplies, Haryana is implementing the project in coordination with NIC and HARTRON. The enrollment camps in all the four blocks have been started on 27th May 2011.
