Uttarakhand has 70 Assembly Constituencies for which elections will be held on 30th January 2012. The Election Commission of India (EC) has announced notification with Assembly Elections Schedule 2012 in Uttarakhand. The present Assembly of Uttarakhand will expire during March 2012. Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress Party are dominating the Uttarakhand politics along with significant presence of BSP. In the 2007 Assembly elections, BJP was emerged as a single largest party and managed to take the reigns with the support from Uttarakhand Kranti Dal and the three independents. Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri (known as BC Khanduri) is the present Chief Minister of the state. Other big states going for polls in 2012 are Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. 1) Issue of Notification: 24th December 2011
2) Last date for filing nominations: January 2012
3) Scrutiny of nominations: January 2012
4) Last date for withdrawal of nominations / candidature: January 2012
5) Date of poll: 30th January 2012
6) Counting of votes / Results: 4th March 2012
7) Date before which election process shall be completed: 9th March 2012.
Party wise strengths in the present Assembly (After 2007 Assembly elections):
1) BJP: 34 seats
2) INC (Congress) : 21 seats
3) BSP: 8 seats
4) Independents: 3 seats
5) Others: 3 seats
Both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress are not appears to be in the commanding position this time. Senior politicians from both the parties, ND Tiwari and Ramesh Pokriyal are facing charges and controversies of various types. The BJP has recently changed the top leadership in order to face Assembly elections. Other important leaders in the state are Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, Nityanand Swami etc. News channels will announce exit polls on 30th January itself as it is a single phase election for Uttarakhand. BJP Candidate’s list:
The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has anounced second list of candidate’s for Uttarakhand Assembly elections with 20 names. Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD), an ally of BJO would contest two seats in the state. The BJP has already declared its first list of candidates for 48 constituencies in 70-member Assembly last week.
