Voter Enrolment made easy for AP Students

The Election Commission (EC) has come up with a simple and smart approach to enroll college and university students as voters and issue Electronic Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to them. Students need not undergo any verifications and inquiries regarding age, place of residence etc. in order to get an EPIC card. The facility has been arranged by the state authorities of EC on the occasion its Diamond Jubilee Celebrations being observed on January 25 as Voters Day at the national level.

The students are exempted from compulsorily verifications to be conducted to issue EPIC cards. Students will be granted voting right if the head of their educational institution (Principal or Vice-Chancellor) signs on the application endorsing contents on it. These signed applications will be sent to the electoral registration officers who will issue Elector’s Photo Identity Cards to them.

The EC has done a fresh enrolment of 15 lakh people in a special drive from October 31, 2010 to January 5, 2011. With this, the number of voters in the State had gone up to 5.7 crore. Eligible students and other people are requested by EC on the eve of Voters Day to apply for enrolment. The applications would be processed and voter cards will be issued by February 26. The Election Commission is also taking the services of all the 18,000 post offices and e-Seva centers in the State for the use of enrollment.
