Narendra Modi is a Chief Minister of Gujarat. He has been in the chair from 7th October 2001. He won the Gujarat Assembly Elections in 2002 and 2007. Modi emerged as a strong leader in BJP after his successive wins in the elections. The slogan of Vibrant Gujarat brought him accolades from the industry bigwigs of the country. His term as Chief Minister of Gujarat also marred with several controversies, riots, political strife etc. Narendra Modi is the longest serving Chief Minister of Gujarat as on date. Following is the brief profile / bio-data of Narendra Modi:

Narendra Damodardas Modi was born on 17th September 1950. He was educated in Gujarat University and hold Masters Degree in Political Science. He first became the Chief Minister of Gujarat in October 2001. Modi hails from Vadnagar in Mehsana district of Gujarat. He has been active in RSS as pracharak in his college days. Modi was appointed as National Secretary of BJP in 1995 and later promoted as General Secretary of the party in 1998.

Modi is known for this simple life style. He was appointed as Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001 when Kesubhai Patel resigned following the defeat of BJP in by elections in Gujarat. He has been continued in the CM post till the date. He introduced several popular schemes such as Sijalam Sufalam, Chiranjeevi Yojana, Karmayogi Abhiyan, Panchamrut Yojana, Matru Vandana etc.

2012 Assembly elections are going to be a tough test for Narendra Modi. Some sections of the BJP are projecting him as Prime Ministerial candidate of the party for 2014 General Elections. Modi may emerge as the strongest leader in BJP if he managed to retain the power in Gujarat in this Assembly elections.
