The Government of Uttarakhand has all set to start the process of issuing Identity Cards to all the residents of the state. The process of providing identity cards to Uttarakhand residents will commence from 1st November 2012. The Smart Cards will consist of a 27-digit TIN number including codes of zila, tehsil, village etc.
The Uttarakhand Identity Card would be a Smart Card. The card will be based on biometric system where the photograph, finger prints and residents / pupil details will be printed on the card. The Government has already prepared a database of 78,14,607 people.
Official sources informed that there will be enrollment camps to carry out the Samrt Card process and they are expected to issue 300 biometric cards per day. Residents will have to give family data for the Food department. The department will use the data for the verification and computerisation of the public distribution system.
