The Government of Maharashtra is proposed to ling students’ scholarship scheme to Aadhaar numbers from March 2013. The issue came up at a meeting of UIDAI officials at Lok Mangal, Pune.
The decision has been taken as part of the Union Government’s efforts to implement Direct Cash Transfer (DCT) scheme. The District Collector of Pune has informed that the linking of scholarships with Aadhaar numbers is likely to be completed by March 2013.
All the students will come under the scheme. At present Aadhaar Card covers only 25 percent of the district. It is observed that about 50,000 students from SC, ST, OBC and minority communities are still waiting to come under Aadhaar.
As per the data available with officials, Pune district has more than 73,000 student beneficiaries for Direct Cash Transfer Scheme. Separate nodal centers have been established for the enrollment of students.
