Blue Aadhaar Card for Children Below 5 Years of Age

Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced Baal Aadhaar with blue colour for children below 5 years of age. The card will be given to children below 5 years without biometric validation. Once the child completes 5 years, he / she has to update biometric validation.

The biometric update is free. It has to be done at the age of 5 and again at the age of 15 years. UIDAI has clarified that child’s school ID issued by recognised educational institution can be used as Photo ID card for Aadhaar enrolment of the child.

The UIDAI has also released a model blue – coloured Aadhaar. It is not mandatory for the 5 year age children to get Aadhaar. But the unique ID is needed to avail scholarships and attending overseas educational programmes.

The update process of Baal Aadhaar cards will be same as that of a normal Aadhaar card. The process involves taking biometrics of 10 fingers, iris along with facial photograph. The same update process will be repeated when the child turns 15 years of age.
