More than a century old Sanskrit – Telugu dictionary written by Paravasthu Rangacharyulu has been digitised with the efforts of Andhra Pradesh Oriental Manuscripts Library & Research Institute (APOMLRI). The hand-written Telugu script on more than four lakh pages of manuscript paper has been preserved successfully in the form of Compact Disks (CDs). The APOMLRI has taken up the digitisation project with the help of Iran. This is a part of the huge joint project to preserve more than 24000 manuscripts in Sanskrit, Urdu, Telugu, Persian etc. The Sanskrit- Telugu Dictionary task has been complete with The Noor Microfilm Centre, New Delhi. The Noor center is funded by Iran and expertised in converting manuscripts into soft copies.
The dictionary will be more useful for students and research scholars across the world. The dictionary may also bring out new aspects of the history. The writer of dictionary, Paravasthu Rangacharyulu lived during 1822-1900 and belongs to the area of present East Godavari district. His family members also helped in securing the manuscripts and donated for the massive digitisation project. This dictionary could be another great contribution from Paravasthu family after highly famous ‘Balavyakaranam’ of Paravasthu Chinnayasuri.
