Here is a good news for girl students pursuing professional and vocational courses in India. The Ministry of Railways, Govt. of India has announced the implementation of free Monthly Season Tickets (MSTs) scheme for all girl students. The decision is followed by the announcement made by Mamata Banerjee during Budget 2011-12 speech in Parliament of India. According to the present rules, girl students studying up to Graduation are eligible for free Monthly Season Tickets (MSTs). They can travel freely between stations serving their school / college to residence. This new concession for girl students will be implemented on MSTs purchased on and after 1st July, 2011.
With the announcement of latest scheme, the government has extended the concession to girl students who are pursuing professional and vocational courses also up to the level of Graduation. The facility will include courses such as MBBS., BE., B. Tech., BBA., BCA. etc. The Railway department did not change any other provisions and conditions related to eligibility for free MSTs to boy students. The latest facility will benefit lakhs of girl students those studying in the near by towns and cities and traveling from their residence.
The Government of India, Ministry of Railways has issued this through Commercial Circular No 25 of 2011 with No. TCII/2010/09/Students/Policy on 30th May 2011. The same will be distributed to all the concerned departments for the implementation.
