The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), India’s chief space research agency is planning to launch a meteorological satellite – INSAT-3D in 2013. The concerned Minister in the Union Cabinet has informed the detials of INSAT – 3D today to the upper house of Parliament.
The INSAT – 3D will monitor atmospheric characteristics such as cloud motion winds, vertical profiles of humidity and temperature apart from informing total precipitable water, sea surface temperature
over Indian Ocean and outgoing radiation.
The Minister has observed that the data obtained from INSAT – 3D satellite along with other ground based observations will derive information about climatic conditions in various places and regions. This mainly includes details of rain and weather forecasting.
