The Government of India has appointed a five member panel on the Sub Categorisation of Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The committee will be headed by retired chief justice of Delhi High Court, Justice Rohini.
The main aim of the committee is to study the sub categorisation of OBCs to ensure that the more backward among the OBCs will get the benefits of reservations.
It is also aimed at empowering the backward classes among OBCs to access the benefits of reservations in educational institutions and government jobs.
The terms of reference of the committee also includes examining the extent of inequitable distribution of benefits of OBC reservations among various castes in the community. The committee will identify such castes in OBC list and work out mechanism for subcategorisation.
