The Congress Party is short listing the names of candidates to be contested in Karnataka Assembly elections 2013. The Congress party is on cloud nine after success in the recent local bodies elections. Karnataka will be the biggest state that is going for polls after Rahul Gandhi taken the charge of Vice – Presidentship of the Party. The party is likely to release the list of candidates in a few days.
In 2008 Vidhan Sabha elections, the Congress has won 80 seats and improved its tally comparing to 2004 elections. It 2004 polls, the Congress won only 64 seats. The party is likely to benefit from the split in BJP vote bank due to Yedyurappa’s Karnataka Janatha Paksha (KJP).

Though the party has not projected its Chief Minister candidate in the 2013 polls, Siddaramaiah is likely to emerge as a strong contest for the top post if the Congress won the elections. He served twice as deputy Chief Minister in the past.
