Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) is gearing up for the launch of Light Metro Rail Project. Govt of AP has almost zeroed in on Light Metro System after considering various transport options. Light Metro system will be taken up for all 77 km lines in and around Amaravati. Light Metro is aimed at connecting Amaravati with Vijayawada.
KC Canal – Amaravati Junction:
The committed headed by minister P Narayana has suggested elevated and underground systems for KC Canal and Amaravati route. The government will discuss various options and finalise the corridor.
Corridor 1:
Corridor 1 of the Light Metro will be between Krishna Canal junctions and Lingayapalem. The proect cost is Rs.12000 crores. Route between Airport and PNBS (Pundit Nehru Bus Stand) also comes under corridor 1.
Corridor 2:
Corridor 2 will be between Penamaluru Center and PNBS (Pundit Nehru Bus Stand) which will cost around Rs.2400 crores.
Corridor 3:
This will be between PNBS (Pundit Nehru Bus Stand) and Jakkampudi with an estimated cost of Rs.1640 crores.
The Government has estimated total cost of Light Metro project at Rs.20000 crores. The project includes underground route for 24 kms on Krishna river connecting Penamaluru Center.
In the first phase of the project, Airport – Lingayapalem corridor will be completed. Bandar road corridor and Jakkampudi Corridor will be taken up in second and third phases respectively.
