The Government of India has extended the last date for the linking of PAN with Aadhaar number till 31st March 2018. The date has been extended considering huge number of IT assessees remain complete the linking process.
There are 33 crore PAN cards in the country. Out of these, only 13.28 crore have been linked with Aadhaar numbers. This is the third time that the Government has extended the last date for the linking of PAN and Aadhaar.
The Government has earlier set the deadlines for PAN and Aadhaar link on 31 August and 31 December 2017. The Supreme Court is also hearing several cases pending over the issue of making Aadhaar mandatory for several services.
The Government has also extended the last date for the linking of Aadhaar with several welfare schemes like LPG, mobile number etc.
