Panchayat Elections in Telangana State in 2018

Government of Telangana is proposed to announce panchayat elections schedule in June 2018. The village panchayat elections are likely to be held before the scheduled time. The notification for the elections may be issued on 6th June 2018.

The Government is proposed to complete the process of panchayat elections by 23rd June 2018. Present administrative bodies in panchayats in the state will expire by the end of July 2018.

The Telangana Government has introduced new panchayat raj act in May 2018. The detailed schedule and time duration for the panchayat elections has been mentioned in that act. According to that act, the panchayat elections schedule should be announced as follows:

Filing of nominations, including the date of announcement for panchayat polls: 3 days
Scrutiny of nominations: 4th day
Rejection of nominations: 5th day
Appeal on rejection of nominations: 6th day
Withdraw of nominations and final list of contestants: 7th day
Polling, counting of votes and results: 12th day.

There are 12751 village panchayats in Telangana state. In these 1,13,380 wards are there. About 15 panchayats have more time to complete their term. Polling may be conducted in three phases. Final voters list in each panchayat will be announced by 17th May 2018. 50 percent of seats will be reserved for women candidates in all panchayats.
