The new states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh continue to fight over power sharing between themselves. The Telangana state is facing acute power shortage after the bifurcation of the state of Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana is struggling to provide round the clock power supply to its capital city, Hyderabad. Farming community also came to the streets demanding power supply to irrigation pump sets.
On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh has sufficient power supply and it also stopped sharing power generated from Sileru project. In retaliation to that, Telangana government stopped sharing power generated from Nagarjuna Sugar project.
The issue is likely to go to the centre very soon. Telangana state is in dire need of power supply as the monsoon almost failed across the state and demand for power consumption has not come down. The total usage of power generated from Nagarjuna sagar may fill the gap to some extent, only if AP government accepts to lose its share.
