She is representing Chandragiri Assembly Constituency of Chittoor District and has been elected on the ticket of Indian National Congress. She has been part of the cabinet in Government of Andhra Pradesh during 2004-2010. She held Major industries ministry during 2004-2010 and has been shifted to all important Mines and Geology portfolio in the cabinet of N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. She is the only minister from her community in the newly formed cabinet. The recent developments indicating that Aruna Kumari has not been satisfied with her latest portfolio and is thinking of extending support to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
