Gireesh Kumar Sanghi is a former MP of Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh. He represented the Congress Party in the upper house of the Parliament. His parents are Ram Sharan Sanghi and Kamala Rani Sanghi. He was born on 8 March 1955 at Hyderabad. Gireesh Sanghi was married on 24 May 1982 to Alka Sanghi and they have two sons and one daughter. Gireesh Sanghi studied B.A., M.A (Political Science) in Osmania University, Hyderabad. He is basically an industrialist and later turned into an Agriculturist,Journalist and Writer. Gireesh Sanghi expected renomination to Rajya Sabha in 2012 and the Congress high command has disappointed him.
Sanghi’s permanent address is 1-144, Omerkhan Diara, (Sanghi Nagar), Hayathnagar Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, Andhra Pradesh. He was first elected to Rajya Sabha in June 2004 and served as a member of Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers, Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Finance, Committee on Information Technology, Committee on Industry Co-Chairman, Vigilance and Monitoring Committee for the Ministry of Rural Development etc.
Gireesh Sanghi is known for his interest in Social and Cultural Activities along with Literary, Artistic and Scientific Accomplishments. He is also a member of India Habitat Centre, New Delhi; Rotary Club, Hyderabad, Secunderabad Club, Hyderabad, Nizam Club, Hyderabad, and Cosmopolitan Club, Chennai. He is serving as Chairman and Managing Director of A.G.A. Publications Private Limited; Managing Director of Sanghi Textiles Private Limited, Chief Editor of Vaartha and Swathantra Vaartha dailies in Telugu and Hindi respectively. He also served as village Sarpanch of Omar Khan Diara (Sanghi Nagar), Hayatnagar Mandal.
