Veera Siva Reddy won Kamalapuram segment on the Congress ticket in 2009 Assembly elections. This is his third term. He defeated TDP candidate P. Narasimha Reddy with a margin of 4162 votes in the contest. Narasimhareddy polled 41223 votes and Praja Rajyam candidate O. Subba Reddy polled 33066 votes.
