Sitaram Yechury has been unanimously elected as General Secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI (M). The politbureau of the party has elected Sitaram Yechury for the top post. The new politbureau of CPI (M) is Sitaram Yechury, Prakash Karat, Ramachandran Pillai, Biman Badu, Manik Sarkar, Vijayan, BV Raghavulu, Balakrishnan, MA Baby, Suryakantha Mishra, Padmanabhan, Brinda Karat, Mahammad Saleem, Subhashini Ali, Hannar Molla, G. Ramakrishnan. Following is the brief profile of Sitaram Yechury.
Yechury was born in Chennai in 1952. He studied most of his education in Delhi. He stood first in CBSE board exams at the all India level. He did his M.A Economics from JNU New Delhi. He was not able to complete Ph.D due to emergency. He married Seema Chisti. a journalist with Indian Express.

2) 1977-78: Worked as student leader in Delhi
3) 1978: Elected as joint secretary of SFI
4) 1984: Joined as a member of CPI (M)
5) 1985: Elected to the central committee of CPM
6) 1992: Elected to the politbureau of CPM
7) 2005: Elected to Rajya Sabha
8) 2015: Elected as General Secretary of CPI (M)
He authored and edited several books on economy. His popular writings include Left hand drive, Wat is this Hindu Rashtra, Socialist in 21st Century, Communalism Vs Secularism, Ghruna ki Rajaneeti. He edited People’s Dairy of Freedom Movement, The Great Revolt – A Left Appraisal, Global Economic Crisis – A Marxist Perspective.
