Profile of Sumalatha – Actress and MP of Mandya Lok Sabha Constituency

Sumalath is the first independent woman member of parliament from Karnataka. She contested as an independent candidate from Mandya Lok Sabha Constituency in 2019 general elections. Sumalatha won against Nikhil Kumaraswamy by a margin of 1,28,876 votes. Following is brief profile / biodata of Sumalatha.

Personal Details:
Sumaltha was born in Chennai. She was raised in Mumbai and Andhra Pradesh and remains based in Southern India. Sumalatha began acting at the age of 15, after winning an Andhra Pradesh beauty contest. Previously she studies at St Joseph’s High School, Andhra Pradesh.

Sumalatha Ambareesh

Acting Career:
She is an Indian film actress. Sumalatha has acted in more than 220 films in regional languages like Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil and Hindi as well. She can speak in six languages and has acted in four languages. Sumalatha received the best actress Nandi Award for her role in Sruthilayalu in 1987. She also appeared in a Kannada movie Kallarali Hoovagi with her husband Ambareesh and it won a National Award.

Political career:
She was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha in May 2019. As on 13th September 2019 Sumalatha is a member of Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture. She is also a Member of Consultative Committee and Ministry of External Affairs.

Wife of Ambareesh Gowda:
She got married to Kannada actor and politician Ambareesh on December 8 1991, and their son was born in the year 1993. Ambareesh won thrice from Mandya Constituency from Janata Dal and Congress parties. He also served as minister in Siddaramaiah cabinet. He died in 2019 due to health problems.
