Profile of Sushil Kumar Shinde – Home Minister of India

Sushil Kumar Shinde is a senior politician in India and hails from Maharashtra. He served as a Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Presently he is in news after this appointment as Home Minister of India. He served in several key portfolios in the cabinets of Manmohan Singh. He was also served as Governer of Andhra Pradesh during 2004 and 2008. He has been in the Union Cabinet from 2006. His full name is Sushil Kumar Sambhajirao Shinde. Following is the brief profile / biodata of Sushil Kumar Shinde.

Sushil Kumar Sambhajirao Shinde is presently representing Solapurt Lok Sabha Constituency. He was born on 4th September 1941. He was married Smt Ujwala Shinde and they have three daughters. He has been with the Congress party for more than three decades. He studied B.A. (Hons.), LL.B. and educated at Sangameshwar and Dayanand College, Solapur; Shivaji University, Kolhapur and New Law College, University of Bombay, Maharashtra.

Political Profile: He was member of Congress Working Committee from 1974 – 1992. He was also elected to Maharashtra Assembly for five terms and held various important portfolios. He was elected to Rajya Sabha in 1992 and later won as Lok Sabha member in 1998-99 elections. He served as Chief Minister of Maharashtra during 2003- 04.

Shinde again successfully contested to Maharashtra Assembly in 2004. Later he was appointed as Governor of AP and continued in that position till 2008. He was a Central Cabinet Minister and held portfolio of Power till July 2012. He then shifted to Home Ministry following shuffilng in the cabinet in August 2012.
