Railway Budget 2014-15 Highlights and Summary

The Government of India has presented the Railway Budget 2014-15. The Railway Minister Sadanand Gowda has submitted the Railway Budget on 8th July 2014. This is the first budget of Narendra Modi Government in Center. Following are the highlights of Railway Budget 2014-15.

1) First bullet train is proposed between Mumbai and Ahmadabad
2) There will be a diamond Quadrilateral network for High Speed Trains
3) e-Ticketing through mobile phone will be more popularised.
4) The Government will encourage the corporates to adopt railway stations.
5) The Railway ministry seeks cabinet nod for Foreign Direct Investment in Railway sector.
6) Lifts and escalators will be provided at major railway stations through PPP method.
7) The railway department will be computerised including its properties.
8) Set up of Railway University for technical and non technical subjects.
9) Automatic Ticket Vending Machines will be introduced at railway stations.
10) There will be work stations at select railway stations. Business people can use them.
11) More cleanliness will be assured in the trains.
12) Railway sector need Rs. 50000 crore every year for the next ten years.
13) Operating ratio of the railways is at 94 percent.
14) Morethan 50 unmanned crossings will be removed.
15) Drinking water facilities will be provided in all railway stations
16) Online ticket booking will be made more easier.
17) Bio toilets will be introduced in all major trains and will be expanded.
18) Reservation system of railways will be revamped.
