Born on July 7, 1983, Prashanth Shetty, also professionally known as Rishab Shetty, is an Indian actor, director, and producer who works in Kannada film. He gained notoriety as the director and lead actor of the critically acclaimed and financially successful film Kantara. A National Film Award, two Karnataka State Film Awards, and two Filmfare Awards are among the many honors bestowed upon him.

His education began at Kundapura, in the Karnataka district of Udupi, and he subsequently enrolled in Vijaya College in Bengaluru to pursue a B.Com. He began his career in theatre by performing in Kundapura’s yakshagana shows. While he was a student at Bengaluru, he actively participated in plays. He received recognition for his efforts, and his performances in these plays gave him the confidence to continue acting as a profession.

Following graduation from college, Shetty pursued side gigs in film while working odd jobs including selling water cans, real estate, and hotel labor. At the Government Film and TV Institute in Bangalore, he obtained a diploma in film direction while he was employed. He began his career in the film business as a spot boy, clap boy, assistant director, and so forth. While employed in the field, he got to know Rakshit Shetty; eventually, they became friends.

He made his feature film debut in Bell Bottom (2019), which was warmly praised. After Bell Bottom, Rishab Shetty starred in the film Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana (2021) as mobster Hari, who was headquartered in Mangaluru. Both commercially and critically, the movie was a hit, and critics praised Rishab Shetty and Raj B. Shetty’s performances.

In addition to serving as the film’s principal actor, Shetty worked with Hombale Films on the film Kantara. After garnering positive reviews, it was eventually dubbed into various languages after being initially published solely in Kannada. The second-highest grossing Kannada movie ever made globally is called Kantara. He received the IFFI Special Jury Award at the 54th IFFI in 2023.
