Government of India is proposed to introduce Smart Driving Licence Cards across the country to bring uniformity in the system. SMART Driving Licence Cards will be launched next year (2019) in all the states and union territories. The draft bill has been prepared by the Central Government on this and in the process of approval by state governments.
Features of SMART Driving Licence Cards:
1) All the Driving Licences will be framed with radio frequency chips. Details of the driver will be stored in chip and also will be printed on the card.
2) Name of Licencee, address, date of birth, blood group, status of acceptance for body donation etc will be stored in chip card inserted on the SMART card.
3) Unique Identification Number will be given to each card along with QR code. Near Field Communication system also will be following in this card. Traffic Police can easily track the driver with this system. All the details of driving errors, accidents, penalties will be stored in the chip.
4) All the existing driving licences will be continues even after the launch of new SMART driving licence cards. Old cards will be replaced with new smart cards at the time renewal of the licence.
