28 January 2014: The Telugu Desam party has taken a calculated move in selecting the candidates for Rajya Sabha elections 2014. The party has selected a staunch loyalist Garikapati Mohan Rao and a Kapu women candidate from East Godavari, Sita Ramalakshmi as its candidates.
It appears that the candidature of Garikapati Mohan Rao is unanimous in the Politburo meet. Garikapati has been serving the party since its inception. He is from agriculture community and from Telangana. He is supervising all the tours of Chandrababu Naidu since 2004.
On the other side, TDP supreme tilted towards Thota Sita Rama Lakshmi, Party President of West Godavari Unit, to garner the support of Kapus in the region. Her family is also closely associated with TDP for a long time.
Meanwhile, Hari Krishna, Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy and Motkupalli Narsimhulu expressed their dissent for not considering their candidatures for Rajya Sabha seat. Motkupalli Narsimhulu has been in news as a probable candidate till the last day of selection.
