It is official. Telangana state has become the second most rich state in India after Karnataka. The revenue estimates of the 14th finance commission are to be believed, Telangana has achieved huge revenue surpluses thanks to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
The finance commission has estimated revenue surpluses of Rs. 1,16,000 in Telangana in the coming five years. At the same time the Andhra Pradesh remain in the league of revenue deficit states even after five years.
Driven by the mammoth IT and software exports worth about Rs. 60000 crore per annum, Telangana state is much ahead of its neighbours like Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Maharashtra. The state is even aiming high to beat Karnataka through its new industrial policy.
But the improvement in power and drinking water areas is likely to decide the progress of Telangana in the near future. The expansion of IT and software industries in and around Hyderabad need assured power supply and fluoride free water facility.
